Forward Head Posture

All of my patients, and even I, am amazed how heavy 12 pounds feels when you are holding it in your hands but it is even heavier if you extend your hands forward and hold it in front of you. What does that have to do with facial pain and headaches? If your head is aligned properly over your shoulders, then the weight of your head is fully supported, and your neck muscles do not have to work very hard to support the weight of your head. But almost no one maintains proper posture throughout the day. When you are texting, your head is usually forward. This causes the muscles that support the head to work very hard to support your head in a forward position, which makes the muscles work as if the head weighed over 30 pounds. If you have a headache on the top of your head, it could be due to forward head posture. Keep your head over your shoulders, and stop making your neck muscles work so hard to keep your head forward.
